Starting your journey in Minecraft Survival mode can feel daunting, but with a few essential steps, you’ll be well on your way to building an epic empire.
- Gather Wood: Your immediate priority. “Punch” trees (left-click and hold) to collect wood blocks. These are your most fundamental resource.
- Craft a Crafting Table: Open your inventory (default key ‘E’), place one wood block into any slot, and convert it into four wood planks. Then, use four wood planks to create a crafting table. This crucial item expands your crafting grid from 2×2 to 3×3, allowing for more complex recipes.
- Make Wooden Tools: With your crafting table, craft sticks (two wood planks stacked vertically) and then a wooden pickaxe (three wood planks across the top, two sticks vertically below the middle plank). A pickaxe is essential for mining stone.
- Mine Stone and Upgrade Tools: Use your wooden pickaxe to mine stone blocks. Once you have cobblestone, you can craft a stone pickaxe, axe, shovel, and sword. Stone tools are significantly more durable and efficient than wooden ones.
- Build a Shelter: As night approaches, hostile mobs like zombies, skeletons, and creepers will spawn. A basic shelter, even a simple dirt hut or a hole dug into a hillside, is crucial for your first night. Ensure it has a door to keep out unwanted visitors.
- Find Food: Your hunger bar will deplete as you perform actions. Hunt animals like pigs, cows, or chickens for raw meat. Cook the meat in a furnace (crafted with 8 cobblestone around the perimeter of the crafting table) to restore more hunger points and avoid food poisoning.
- Craft a Bed: To skip the night and set your spawn point, you’ll need a bed. This requires three wool blocks (obtained by shearing sheep or killing them) and three wood planks.
